National Water Day | 2026
Water Is Essential. So Is Preserving It.
Water Is Essential. So Is Preserving It.
Water is an essential resource for life, the balance of ecosystems, and the development of societies. However, climate change, periods of drought, and increasing pressure on water resources make it increasingly important to ensure their preservation and efficient and responsible use.
Water availability directly affects ecosystems, agriculture, and food production. In the face of increasing water scarcity and more frequent extreme weather events, it is essential to develop strategies that improve water resource management and strengthen the capacity of territories and agricultural systems to adapt.
In this context, scientific research plays a fundamental role in generating knowledge and developing technologies and solutions that contribute to more efficient water management. At CITAB, different projects seek to address these challenges through approaches that combine science, innovation, and technology.
AQUAHUB aims to optimise the use of water and soil in traditional crops in mountain regions, contributing to more efficient and resilient agriculture in the face of decreasing water availability. Through the development and implementation of different water management strategies, the project seeks to support crop adaptation to the challenges associated with climate change.
WATERKNOW, in turn, uses geospatial information and knowledge to support water resource management and the prevention of events such as drought. Through the development of tools and hydrological scenarios, the project aims to contribute to a better understanding of water availability and support more informed decision-making in the management of this resource.
Water is indispensable to life and to the activities that depend on it, but its availability cannot be taken for granted. Preserving it requires knowledge, planning, and responsible use. Through scientific research and the development of innovative solutions, it is possible to contribute to more efficient water resource management and greater resilience to the challenges associated with water availability.
