PhD defence of Miguel Ângelo Dias Baltazar
Miguel Baltazar publicly defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Towards the adaptation of grapevine varieties to climate change in the Douro Demarcated Region".

On July 8th 2025, Miguel Baltazar publicly defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Towards the adaptation of grapevine varieties to climate change in the Douro Demarcated Region", developed as part of the doctoral programme "Agricultural Production Chains - From Fork to Farm" at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD).
The research work was carried out under the guidance of Professor Berta Gonçalves and Professor Isaura Castro, integrated members of CITAB, and focused on assessing the physiological, biochemical, morphological and molecular behaviour of 52 grapevine varieties grown in the Douro Superior sub-region. The thesis makes a relevant contribution to the identification of varieties with greater resilience to abiotic stress induced by climate change, promoting adaptation strategies that favour the sustainability of viticulture in regions with a Mediterranean climate.
The jury was chaired by Professor José Luís Mourão (UTAD) and included Professors Hernâni Gerós (University of Minho), António Ribeiro (Polytechnic Institute of Bragança), António Jordão (Polytechnic Institute of Viseu) and Berta Gonçalves (UTAD-CITAB), as well as researchers Dr Emília Díaz Losada (EVEGA - Estación de Viticultura e Enoloxía de Galicia, Spain) and Dr Lia-Tânia Dinis (UTAD-CITAB).
CITAB would like to congratulate Dr. Miguel Baltazar on his success and for the important scientific contributions he has made in the field of vine adaptation to climate change.
