Coordinator: José Angelo Pinto
UTAD/CITAB Coordinator: Maria João Magalhães Gaspar

The BreedMartainha project aims at the selection, characterization and reproduction of improved/selected plant material of the Martaínha variety with the intention of increasing the production potential and quality of the chestnuts. It is intended to obtain and multiply clones adapted to the edaphoclimatic conditions, with compatibility with regional varieties of chestnut and resistance to biotic agents. The work to be developed will involve innovative techniques and will be an essential milestone for the definition and establishment of a program for improvement and genetic conservation of the Martaínha chestnut variety.
