The IBERIAN_CHERRY project, funded by the Interreg POCTEP programme, brings together scientific, technological, and institutional entities from Portugal and Spain with the aim of promoting the sustainability and valorisation of cherry production in the Iberian Peninsula. The initiative involves important cherry-producing regions such as Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Cova da Beira, Castilla y León, and Extremadura, where cherry cultivation has significant economic, social, and cultural relevance.

The project seeks to address challenges related to climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation through the implementation of innovative nature-based and digital technological solutions. Its main actions include promoting sustainable agricultural practices, improving the adaptation of cherry orchards to new climatic conditions, reducing the use of phytosanitary products, and enhancing the value of endogenous products such as Fundão cherries, Resende cherries, and Jerte Valley cherries.

IBERIAN_CHERRY also focuses on knowledge transfer, the development of digital monitoring tools, and the promotion of new business models linked to the cherry value chain, contributing to economic development and population retention in cross-border rural regions.
